In this my most ambious wood burning yet I have tried to capture the essence of this original painting through an impression which depicts the heavy bombardment of the the harbor of Algiers by the British and Dutch fleets against the Barbary corsairs on the 27th of August, 1816. The bombardment lasted 10 hours and the losses on both sides were very high but it was a great success for the British and Dutch with over 1650 enslaved prisoners liberated. This was also the first time I did a wood burning on Ashwood. It is a hard wood but much easier to work with than Oak or Maple and it has a very uniform grain allowing the artist more control over the actual intended result. I will be using this wood more often in the future.
